Continuing inquiry, grounded in the Caribbean.

Maria is pursuing an MPhil in Tropical Earth and Environmental Science at The University of the West Indies, St Augustine. She earned an undergraduate degree from The University of the West Indies, St Augustine Campus, and also holds postgraduate qualifications in Mass Communication and New Media from the University of Leicester.

Service and leadership

Rotary has been a sustained practice of service since 2012.

From club leadership in Trinidad and Tobago to public image support across the Caribbean, Maria’s Rotary work centres on visibility, collaboration, youth development and practical community impact.

During Maria’s 2018–2019 term as President, the Rotary Club of St Augustine chartered the first EarlyAct Club in Trinidad and Tobago, establishing a structured pathway for young children to experience service, leadership, and the values of Rotary.

Bringing people together around shared community concerns.

During Maria’s 2018–2019 presidency, the Rotary Club of St Augustine worked with fellow Rotary Clubs and business organisations to host discussions on public safety, the closure of Petrotrin and procurement legislation. These meetings provided opportunities for shared learning and dialogue on issues affecting communities and livelihoods.

The Rotary Club of St Augustine chaired a joint meeting with fellow Rotary Clubs and Chambers, bringing participants together for a discussion on public safety. Commissioner of Police Gary Griffith delivered the keynote address at the Centre of Excellence, Macoya.

Early roots

A Caribbean childhood shaped by Barbados.

Maria grew up in Barbados, where some of her earliest memories of learning, community and belonging were formed.

The photograph at left has special meaning: it was taken by her late father as she prepared to attend St Angela’s Ursuline Convent at four years old. It is preserved here as part of the story—not as a polished portrait, but as a family record.
